Complementarianism, Pussy Riot, Core Issues & New Statesman, the EDL and Rev Alan Clifford
Just a brief blogpost on a few things that caught my attention today.
Certain quarters of the Christian online world have been at war over the issue of Complementarianism. You can find the background info and latest salvo details here if you’re interested. Adrian Warnock recently took part in a Premier debate on this topic and says this is “one of the most controversial subjects facing the Church today”.
Personally I think this is more an issue facing the Western Protestant Church and amounts to narcissism of small differences.
News today that Pussy Riot have been nominated for the European Parliament’s annual Sakharov Peace Prize.
I don’t agree with their custodial sentences, but a peace prize…..
The New Statesman got itself into hot water by running a full-page advert for Core Issues. PME200 blogged on this from a gay vantage and details the outcome. Core Issues have provided a response to the New Statesman which can be read here.
The English Defence League are marching in Norwich this Saturday in support of Reverend Alan Clifford who was banned by the council from distributing anti-Islamic literature from a market stall. Revd Clifford has made it clear that he is in no way affiliated with the EDL, but goes on to say the EDL rightly endorse his view on Islam.
Not the wisest of comments.

Don’t really know about Pussy Riot… It’s hard to get any real facts here in the UK. I’ve not listened to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01n0xtg/Putin_the_Patriarch_and_Pussy_Riot/ yet, but intend to do later today (an academic friend (Russian) helped the BBC with some of the background so I feel obliged!).
Revd Clifford sounds a rather unwise character. But this does not surprise me. I was invited to some doleful bash at Parliament last year on the relationship between the church and the welfare state. It was attended by many a cleric (from various denominations) and altho’ some where certainly ‘on the ball’ – many seemed to live a fantasy universe, detached from real life.

P.S. I just hope Norwich Council are as proscriptive when it comes to some of the vile anti-Christian literature I’ve seen some Muslims pass off as ‘religious tracts’ and freely handed out in town centres around the UK.
Anyone who gets given one, take it to your council and complain!

In hoc signo vinces†
Pussy Riot are the reflection of the debasement of Western civilisation, they say nothing about Russia and everything about the feckless christanity and politics of the West.
Some Pussy Riot observers will almost certainly cringe in the realisation that they were fooled by the same type of uncouth celebrity bleeding hearts and artists making their stands in the West.

@ … the EDL and Rev Alan Clifford.
Putting aside the English Defence League, where will all the high professors of democracy and freedom of expression be when it comes to marching in defence of Revd Clifford’s and everyone else’s freedom of speech in Norwich this Saturday?
Will christians march this Saturday to protest the right to freely distribute what the authorities have arbitrary deemed to be anti-Islamic literature?
