Colin Coward of Changing Attitude accuses Christians of abuse and bullying over Coalition for Marriage petition

The Changing Attitude blog has a post entitled: The c4m petition – how Christian bullying and abuse achieves anti-gay goals.

In case you are not aware, Changing Attitude campaigns for “full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the life of the Anglican Communion”.

As you can imagine, given the title of the post, I was intrigued to read of the robust evidence supporting such a claim.

Of course, given Revd Colin Coward’s propensity towards making claims without evidence; for example, in the case of his threats to “out” the ten percent of Anglican Bishops he ‘knows’ to be gay, I should have known better.

The blog post itself appears to be based on “receiving reports from people attending churches where the Coalition for Marriage (c4m) petition has been circulated.”

There’s also one anecdotal case cited of an anonymous lesbian, after which is a hatchet job on conservative orthodox Christians who “have a tendency to abuse, bully and manipulate in order to dominate and exclude other Christians from the life of the Church.”

Colin seems extremely upset at the CofE statement yesterday on gay marriage and is under the impression that the 577,000 signatories of the C4M petition were largely obtained under duress through “manipulative, bullying tactics which have been adopted by conservative groups and churches”.

It would certainly seem from Colin’s account that conservative orthodox Christians are exceedingly wicked and extraordinarily powerful, perhaps even employing some form of Potteresque ‘dark art’?

Who knows the bounds of conservative orthodox Christian heinousness.

By the way the Coalition for Marriage petition was handed into Downing Street today and one can only hope that the government is aware that orthodox conservative Christians managed to bully and abuse half a million citizens into signing it against their will.

  1. Lisa Graas Says:

Orthodoxy is a heresy. How hilarious is that?

  2. Goy Says:

Threats to “out”, a despicable practice when used to advance a political agenda, a very thin line between exposing hypocrisy and political blackmail.

  3. Phoebe Kearns Says:

Orthodox Christianity in its true form is the continuation of the early church into the present. The orthodox Church herself abides by the desistions of the fathers and refuses to allow modern trends and fads to change her. The early fathers ruled that the only legitimate mirage and place for sexual relations was a mirage between a man and a woman, this was against the Greek helinstic background where homosexuality was normal in fact incuraged in many philosophic schools. I you cannot accept the Orthodox Church on her terms leave her be and don’t try and force you views on to her as She will never accept something she views as an adoration of nature.
