    The ‘multiverse’ link is interesting. I’ve just finished Lawrence Kraus’s book “a universe from nothing”.

    I think the point is that there may indeed be empirical evidence (but not proof) of a multiverse (for instance, because information flow would now not be possible, it doesn’t follow that this was the case at the moment of creation which would leave echoes). Even without this, as a hypothesis it gives another possible purely materialist explanation to the fine-tuning problem and hence takes the wind from the sails of a lazy theistic argument that the universe is fine-tuned, this is astronomically unlikely, hence evidence for a god. (I’m btw surprised how frequently this comes up when at the same time i’m told that ‘god of the gaps’ is old skool theology)

    Although others disagree and suggest the introduction of parallel universes is at least as ontologicially profligate, I’m inclined to think Mr Occam’s razor comes down on the side of not introducing something of a completely new nature (god) to our ontology.
