Threat of legal action against me

On Sunday I received notice of an intent to pursue me legally for this blog post which would presumably come under the law of defamation and specifically libel.

This was part of the correspondence I received:

I have referred the rest of your grossly inaccurate comments about the situation with [names forum] to my legal advisors, and have sent them a copy of what you have published here.

Confusingly, today there appeared to be something of a backtrack with a denial of intent to pursue legal action. Apparently, passing information relating to an accusation of libel to your legal advisors, should not be conflated with a threat to pursue me legally?

Not exactly sure how else you could view it!

This chap is now awaiting to hear from his legal advisors, to weigh his options, even though of course, he’s never threatened me with legal action!

This was the second comment I received:

Still lying, Stuart, don’t worry, so many people on [names forum]  know what you have done I doubt you will ever be able to show your face there again without people laughing at you. You have made a mockery of a religion that used to be mine but will never be yours, you will never make any sort of Catholic, your behaviour demonstrates that you know nothing of the Christian faith at all, only the words.

Which speaks for itself.

Today a request was made for me to demand the removal of blog posts written by other bloggers on this incident.

I’d like at this point to mention that this particular guy had been previously suspended from the forum, due to his malicious comments towards me.

The unending stream of continuous attacks against me still rumble on….

As you say, it is a ploy used to bully, intimidate and silence you.

But if you were not attacked, how would you know you were walking alongside Our Lord?

    Be assured of continued prayers…

Stuart, you are in my prayers.

As you know I had a relentless stream of this last week. My lawyer advised me that it’s like a verbal assault or mugging. It seems clear-cut that this guy is on a hiding to nothing, although that seems little consolation.

I had similar words of hatred, someone ranted that I used my faith as a stick to beat people, nothing could be further from the truth, all in all it was deeply traumatic.

What I would say, is that actually the law is there to help you and is reasonable and just. If someone makes unfounded allegations or accusations, then the law will weigh these up. I was threatened with police action, whereupon I went to the police and informed that there was absolutely no evidence I had done anything wrong and not to worry. On the other hand, the aggressor(s) were displaying a consistent pattern of harassment and abuse towards me.

Don’t be afraid to consult legal advice if you need it. The law is firmly on your side and don’t succumb to spiritual attacks such as these which I believe are diabolical in nature.

Oh Stuart, I am sorry. Prayers coming. Nothing you wrote is defamatory in nature. Goodness. Hope this gets resolved soon.

  4. Phoebe Says:

    Well said Ben.

This man is a cyber bully, and a master of spin. He reminds me of a black widow, who spins his web of lies, in an attempt to confuse and deceive several gullible lonely old women.

If your head is above the rest, it’s the one that’s going to get lopped off.

  6. Roger Pearse Says:

Ignore this creep. He has no “legal advisors”, of that you may be sure. These are just empty words. Be bold, and treat them with contempt. Until you get a letter from a firm of solicitors, it’s just wind.

You MUST also advise the forum in question that you are receiving threats and demands of this kind in connection with their forum. They WILL have solicitors, and will deal with this person firmly.

Windy threats of this kind happen in some fora. I once had a fraudulent online seller from the US threaten to take me to court in the UK, and write pseudo-legal guff. He even wrote me a “pre-legal letter”. But I thought to myself, “If you should manifest a legal personality anywhere that I can get hold of you under UK consumer protection law, then believe me, you will pay me a lot of money.” I made sure I ignored him, and didn’t respond (because I wanted him to walk into the trap without provocation from me). Of course I never heard another word.

  7. Richard Collins Says:

I think you will make an excellent Catholic Stuart, just hurry up and get on with it!
    Prayers offered on your behalf.

  8. Gordon Says:

    Fairly typical bluster!

  9. Tim Says:

Clearly he knows nothing of the Christian faith, and is therefore not one to be going round giving lessons to others. If he did he would realise that he is ignoring the advice of St Paul (1 Corinthians 6:1-8).

    As old Winny said:

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” (Winston Churchill)

    Keep on going Stuart.

  10. Anita Says:

Oh, just don’t worry about it, Stuart. Nothing will come out of it, and it seems to be impossible that he could win, even if he did actually pursue it.
P.S. Thank you so much for the very kind link:-)

  11. Vic the Vicar Says:

The world is full of extremely sad people – be of good cheer for blessed are you when [some] speak badly of you.

Have a smile courtesy of yesterday’s lectionary readings:

    Psalm 36
Sin whispers to the wicked, in the depths of their heart; there is no fear of God before their eyes. They flatter themselves in their own eyes that their abominable sin will not be found out. The words of their mouth are unrighteous and full of deceit; they have ceased to act wisely and to do good. They think out mischief upon their beds and have set themselves in no good way; nor do they abhor that which is evil.
