    John 3:16 tends to be misread as meaning God so loved people, it actually uses the greek kosmos, meaning physical world rather than oikoumene which would have meant inhabited world. A small point, but something that might encourage people to think of the physical world as worth being looked after.

    Romans 8 verses 38 – 39.
    “I am persuaded that nothing . . . . will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ our Lord”
    The literal translation is “persuaded”! Not just “convinced”. I have looked at it, wrestled with it and come to a conclusion.
    To Professor Dawkins and others;- “please note that I too have doubted. I have been there and come through to a new understanding of the reality of God.

    Terry, that’s a view of faith common in Scotland and why so many of our ministers have first degrees in law! Its down to forensic argument and balance of probabilities. Not sure that works for me.

    Interesting that “Civic Scotland” put a statue of David Hume intimidatingly guarding Edinburgh’s High Court – Oh the Terror!

    Chic Murray would have been more appropriate. :-)

  5. Gordon Says:

    David Hume who fell in the Nor Loch and a passing woman refused to help pull him out until he had recited the Lord’s prayer.

    @Gordon,

    :-) Did he fall or was he pushed?

    A church on every corner and pubs in between, Scots used to get drunk on spirituality – whiskey and wrath, now things are so tight you can almost hear the people being crushed.
