Gettin’ with the times – WordPress Mobile Pack

I know I should have done this yonks ago, but I’ve now installed a plugin that should render this blog mobile friendly.

I know a few of you access this blog via iPhones and what have you, and as I haven’t access to such wizardry gadgetry, I would really appreciate someone testing this out for me.

I’m under the impression this blog should now automatically detect you are using a mobile device, and act accordingly.

I’ve opted to utilise the free WordPress Mobile Pack, which seems to have solid and positive reviews.

For anyone strange enough to be curious what this blog would look like on a mobile device, you can click the “Switch to our mobile site” link at the bottom of the page.

Do let me know if it’s OK, as I haven’t made any changes to the default settings or theme and may well have to.

I accessed it with my BlackBerry and desktop at the same time. On the BB it had a little bit of a problem loading the full site particularly when I scrolled up and down. But it was perfectly fine with an individual article.

    Thanks Tim.

Looked OK on my Android phone, autodetection and all.

    Excellent news thanks Simon.

I don’t know if you’re taking suggestions, or if this is possible with your software, but I would find a “preview your post” button very useful. I do like to check that I’ve remembered to close my bold tags before submitting something, and that I haven’t used a preposition to end a sentence with.

WordPress works a treat on the Blackberry, it’s addictive though!

I wouldn’t write an article via mobile but would moderate comments and add comments via mobile.

Hope you’re doing well Stuart :)

@Simon, I seem to be in the process of revamping, so I’ll look into that. I must admit I quite like the ‘edit’ feature on other blogs. Always open to suggestion by the way.

@Joseph, hey bro! Doing great at the mo and delighted you touched base. I would like to have an iPhone or Blackberry, but a little pricey for me. My technology shows me the browsers folk are using to access the blog, and more and more it’s mobile browsers, so had to do something.

Virgin are doing a deal on Blackberries at the moment, if you are interested. Per month it’s far cheaper than having a landline.

Discovered an issue. If you view – for example – your previous article on reductionism, it gets split across two pages. There is a note saying that this is Page 1 of 2 but I can’t see a link to page 2. It seems to apply to both my desktop and mobile browsers when viewing the mobile version.

    It’s possible I’m being dumb, of course…

PS: …and an edit feature would be a great solution, for example when I’ve forgotten to say something.

  11. Webmaster Says:

Hmm, thanks I’ll look into that Simon..

  12. webmaster Says:

@Simon, I think I’ve fixed the split pages problem, by disallowing the split. Would you let me know if it looks OK to you now.

  13. Simon Says:

Works fine in both browsers now. Thanks. :)

Edit: And it looks like the edit feature works, too!

    Yay! Great news…
