Britain ranks fifth equal in terms of negativity towards religion
Forced to choose, no fewer than 71% of Britons contend that ‘religious beliefs promote intolerance, exacerbate ethnic divisions, and impede social progress in developing and developed nations alike’. Only 29% say the polar opposite, that ‘religion provides the common values and ethical foundations that diverse societies need to thrive in the 21st century’.
This ranks Britain fifth equal in terms of negativity towards religion in a league table of 23 countries surveyed in Wave 14 of the Ipsos Global @dvisor omnibus poll. Fieldwork was conducted online between 7 and 23 September 2010 among a total of more than 18,000 adults aged 16-64, including 1,002 in Great Britain.

The questions also influence the answers and with a vague one like ‘Is religion a force for good in the world?’, they were probably influenced by listening to the militant atheists and the publicity they have garnered over recent years, and the effects of Islam and the divisions it is causing in the UK.
Additionally, using Tony Blair as the person to debate Christopher Hitchens was a very bad move. Blair has by now achieved a very bad, and well deserved, reputation amongst the general public and is not the most intelligent of people. Very few people these days see him as even remotely trustworthy, at least in the UK anyway.

I agree with Tim on this it is a loaded question and the use of Tony Blair is like deploying Lauren Booth to make the case for Israel’s right to exist.
Can the peoples of the U.K. really be trusted to make competent political and religious decisions given the left/right ultraliberal conditioning and propaganda campaigns they have been subjected to over the past 30 years plus.
A case in point is the criminalisation of disability and subsistence welfare claimants to further the left/right ultraliberal ideology of destroying the lower social strata and create a nation of helots.
