Christian Street Preacher Anthony Rollins Wins Police Payout
Blimey don’t often see a Christian win a payout in these sort of cases.
Police have been ordered to pay compensation to a Christian street preacher who was hauled off in handcuffs for saying that gays will go to hell.
A judge condemned the arrest of Anthony Rollins, who quoted the King James Bible on the subject of the ‘effeminate’ as he preached in Birmingham.
Mr Rollins was handcuffed and then held in a cell for nearly four hours after a passer-by dialled 999 and complained that his language was ‘hugely offensive’.
The ruling – which ended with West Midlands police ordered to pay more than £4,000 in damages to the 45-year-old preacher – appears to set a new landmark in the battle between the gay lobby and Christians who want to say in public that homosexual sex is wrong.
I do oft wonder why they feel the need to major on issues of sexuality whilst ‘street preaching’ and I wonder how many converts they win.
I know many disagree with me, but I don’t like ‘street preaching’ – see the Bullhorn Guy – and this was confirmed yet again a couple of days ago in Gloucester, when I took a few moments out to listen to one and he was pants. The Lord alone knows what on earth he was blathering about, but whatever it was, it involved him spelling the word “s-h-i-t” many times over, I kid ye not.

I have always thought that shouting at people has little effect. Better maybe to buy some fish and chips, sit down alongside people and talk (with your mouthful!!) But this makes us vulnerable . . . . . . .

Hooray! A victory for common sense at last! I have just read the Christian Institute’s version of this. I particularly liked the judge’s comments on the complainant. ‘The judge also criticised Mr Edwards, the man who originally phoned the police. Mr Edwards had appeared in court as a witness for the police. The judge said: “I was not impressed by Mr. Edwards as a witness. He struck me as a man, full of his own self-importance, who in the witness box relished the attention and greatly embellished his evidence.” The judge added that “in every respect where his evidence is at odds with the evidence of other witnesses I reject it”.’ (I hope the police try to reclaim their 4,000 quid from this puffed-up popinjay.) It might also teach them a lesson not to be so crass in future.
I can’t say I particularly understand street preachers, but he has a democratic right to read the bible in public, just as Muslim ‘preachers of hate’ appear to have a democratic right to spew their bile about beheading infidels. You don’t see the police rushing up mob-handed to arrest them, do you?
I braved the student demonstrations yesterday to hear a lecture on the erosion of religious liberty in the House of Lords. People are beginning to wake up to what we could lose. As has been discussed on previous threads, Christianity has been the driving force behind much of the social reform in healthcare, education, abolition of slavery, human dignity. It has contributed much to society from which we all benefit, whereas homosexuality has contributed … well, what exactly? So why do the rights of the latter so frequently trump the rights of the former?

I don’t enjoy seeing street preaching either. But what kind of society do we live in, when an old bloke with a sandwich board reading “prepare to meet thy God” is arrested? It’s almost a fingerprint of a repressive society that it arrests religious cranks.
By the way, have you read Bishop Burnet’s “History of my own times”? I re-read the Everyman abbreviated version at the weekend, and so much of the religious persecution run by the Restoration government — especially in Scotland — seemed to echo bits of policies that we see today.
As for unnatural vice, let’s remember that it is not Christians who made it the shibboleth of our day, but those pushing it and determined to silence any discussion except in terms of warmest approval. We need to note that most of those who complain about them discussing the subject, who talk about “obsession” in order to embarass, mostly do so as a technique to try to silence opposition.

Don’t buy into Rob Bell and his ‘Bullhorn Guy’ folks. Rob Bell sets up a straw man and knocks it down.
Bell is a dangerous false teacher mixing error with truth. See the responses to Bullhorn Guy – e.g. Bullwhip Guy (http://diacrino.blogspot.com/2008/06/bullwhip-guy.html), Todd Friel on Youtube et.al.
By the way, Jesus was a street preacher – I mean the real Jesus of the Scriptures (not the one made in the image of White Western Liberals).
Some street preachers are not called of God. Some major on minors. Some don’t preach the gospel of grace. But ABUSUS NON TOLLIT USUM : abuse does not take away use. You don’t cease medicine because of a few quacks.

I must say i have to agree with the birmingham street preacher, if we do not repent of our sins (10 commandments breaking of) we will be cast into the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone and tormented forever revelation ch 21 v 8 this is the real bible there is a day of judgment coming hebrews ch 9 v 27 heed the warning jesus yeshua spoke the truth and then died for us jesus yeshua name means “he saves” or “salvation”, but the question is has he saved you?, god bless.
