South Cambridgeshire Swavesey: 1000 travelling Christian gypsies turn up to talk about the word of Jesus Christ and to save the ‘lost ones’.
Around 1,000 travellers have descended on the 30-acre site with 200 caravans in Swavesey, near Cambridge.
South Cambridgeshire district council gave permission for the six-day Life and Light Mission festival but claim they had no idea so many travellers would be coming to the area.
[.....]
Minister Abraham Howard of the mission said: “We are meeting to talk about the word of Jesus Christ. We haven’t come to do any harm we’re just here to save the ‘lost ones’ from hell.
“People have nothing to fear – we are Christians.
“This the biggest mission of the gipsy world, we preach all over the world. We’ve never been here before but we’ve come to share the word.”

Here is a link to their web site:

You will notice that they have a very narrow message.
They have done things like this here in Edinburgh.

mmm, and we have a link at the bottom to Christian Concern for our Nation….for some unknown reason….

CCFON, Israel and Creationism. I know you will disagree about Israel, but it is a very common trinity these days.
August 17th, 2010 at 12:03 pm
Isn’t it a shame Gordon, it really is….
August 17th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
The Light and Life Gypsy Church members are Irish travellers according to news reports yet most of their on-line resources are American. Videos from Ken Ham, Kent Hovind, etc. – all the usual suspects. The church advertises “conventions” and “tent missions” which aren’t terms normally used in England.
A Light and Life Gypsy Church spokesman for the festival in Cambridgeshire said “This is the biggest mission of the gypsy world we preach all over the world. We’ve come to share the word.” So I guess it’s a global movement.
As Gordon says, CCFON, Israel and Creationism are terms that turn up together. Add to that End Times theology and the fact that CCFON is linked to the trouble-making Christian Legal Centre, and the picture becomes increasingly depressing.

Yet, we were just outside with the Rotary Club collecting money for the Pakistan floods, so there are some practical Christian caring things going on that are not totally inward looking. Its just that these more insular things are getting more common than they used to be.

@ Gordon: What a cheering change of focus. It’s too easy to look at the lunatic fringe and think that’s all there is, especially on the Net. But you’re right. I’m surrounded by Christians leading admirable lives and trying to help others. That’s the reality.

its very strange when an event like this occurs its always the middle class or wealthy that have to put the boot in. what are they afraid of loosing there possessions and finding Jesus god what a dilemma it must be hard worshiping the god of money thats all there life consists of uncertainty and the grave poor fools.
August 19th, 2010 at 7:44 am
I am part of Light and Life Christian Fellowship and i am also on the field at Swavesey and glory to God 25 people have made ecisions to follow Christ.
And to reply to Sophies comment no we are not American.Even tho loads of Gypsys are saved in America but you are right in saying we are a global oranisation we are in over 20 countrys in the world and glory to God we are growing as God continues to pour out His Spirit on our people.
We are here to preach the Gospel but sadly as always we are met with abuse and lies and slander. But we wont stop doing Gods work.
God bless
August 19th, 2010 at 9:00 am
keep going brother dont let these middle class toffs dictate to you how to evangalise i see them most Sundays in church with there false smiles and there selfish requests to god to make them much richer when they pray they are just hypocrites snakes in the grass that really envy you because they have not got the bottle to do what you are doing praise Jesus.
August 19th, 2010 at 11:00 am
@ bob: Glad to see you expressing the inclusive welcome to all believers that Jesus would have wanted… Christians who really appreciate and express the love of God are so refreshing.
Do you never reflect on what you’re saying? Do you really spend your time in church judging your fellows?
August 19th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
well dont they in there arrogance judge us for being poor come on dear your not that pure of heart also did not Jesus say to those wealthy ones they were like serpents waiting to devour the innocent i have met many people in Cambridge who profess to be Christians take away there money and you are left with extremely vile nasty people as i said money is there god.
August 19th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
@ bob: you reap what you sow.
August 19th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
This is nothing to do with being poor. Its about the promotion of poorly founded ant educational ideas to people who are in less of a position to challenge apparently learned leaders because they have not themselves had a formal education. However, my own limited experience of travellers is that they usually have a lot of common sense and I hope that might let them see through some of the weird ideas being out forward by this group. There are churches in any town who would welcome anyone through their doors without requiring this sort of denial of reason.
August 19th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
@ Gordon: Reminds me of that appalling Pink Floyd album, Another Brick in the Wall. “We don’t need no education!”
All very well for a bunch of university graduates to say…. Never mind all the illiterates who took/take it seriously?
August 19th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
oh you academics your so full of your self you make me feel ill i just hope theres not to many of you in the kingdom because we the working class have had enough of you down here dictating to us how we should live our lives while you lot live of our hard graft.
August 19th, 2010 at 9:43 pm

Well friday is here and we are getting ready to clear the field and tidy up.Over 40 decisions have been made to follow Christ.
just to imform th “ignorant ones” we actually do have churches in this country and in Ireland,Scotland and Wales. We have over 20 and nearly as many outreaches. We have a church near Swaversey in Rampton and all are welcome.
I fellowship at Light and Life in Dartford we hve meetings every sunday at 11am and 6-30 pm and a bible study wednesday at 7-30 all are welxome in the name of Jesus.
On a side note i find it absolutly dispicable that i havnt heard of A SINGLE non Gypsy telling the local Gypsys in this area about Jesus. But we have!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we still will GLORY TO GOD.
So we will stick to our way of evangelizm rether than conforming to your way of NON evangelizm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any way God bless all and remember to go forth and preach the Good News to all creation

Wait a minute. These people like Kent Hovind but he has a PhD. I see double standards here. They are not against education at all, they are against education when it doesn’t agree with them.
August 20th, 2010 at 8:44 am
Mother die listen to bobby-boy cursing everyone. cos he finks hes a proper traveller. gorjers like you give us a bad name.
August 20th, 2010 at 8:57 am
Hi Bill,
Praise God, that is great news, 40 decisions for Christ.
Do you work with the local churches?
Are you able to feed these people into them, so that they can then become disciples and be followers of our Lord.
August 20th, 2010 at 9:22 am
Hi Gordon
Kent Hovind does even understand very basic biology, there is no way he has a PhD. It is just embarrassing.

I tried to embed a vid for Hovind, but it didn’t work

Here’s the link. It is painfully amusing.

August 20th, 2010 at 12:41 pm
Hello Phoebs yes we are able to disciple converts as we have our own churches all over the UK there is one close to Swaversey in a village called Rampton.I fellowship in Light and Life Dartford.
And Gordon you are lieing by saying we are against education.Me and my family all went to school. We all earn an hnest living and pay tax regardless to what lies and fairy tales you have heardor believe.
Any i am not here to argue or get into a debate.I am commited to giving glory to Lord and Savour Jesus Christ.
And in the end 50 people made decisions to follow Christ so all in all a sucess and just to put a spanner in the medias works we are now cleaning and tidying the field.
God bless
August 20th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
yes phobic and moron sorry gordon stop picking on gods people and get of your back sides and do a real mans job instead of pencil pushing.
August 20th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
@ Gordon: Kudos on that link. Started reading this so-called PhD thesis, got the giggles. Looked up the institution that granted Kent Hovind his doctorate.
“Patriot Bible University (PBU), formerly known as Patriot University, is an unaccredited fundamentalist Christian correspondence school… PBU is not accredited by any agency recognized by the Department of Education. It has been called a diploma mill, lacking sufficient academic standards to award degrees.”
Figures. What a bunch of conmen! (Not the Light and Life church we’re discussing, but the PBU and people like Mr Hovind.)
August 20th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
I never mentioned taxes or anything like that. Not sure where that came from.
This issue is not specific to this particular group, but fundamentalists in general who speak out against the pursuit of knowledge while revering people whom they believe are very knowledgeable.
There is also a propensity to believe in conspiracy theories (NWO, Diana etc).
I find this all very odd.
However, if we criticise fundamentalists they see that as persecution and it confirms to them that they are correct in their belief. It is a self reinforcing belief.
August 20th, 2010 at 7:04 pm
We have all left the field and the owners have locked the gate and they told us that we are people f our word because the field was left spotless.
I will leave you to argue because thats not of God but i would like to invite you to one of our churches. We preach from the Word of God and He is blessing us.If you would like to come go o our website and get in contact
God bless

Just a quick sidenote for Sophie regarding Mr Hovind and anyone else you wish to mock or discredit.
Ministry is God given not taught by a college, university or organisation. It comes from God not http://www.buyaministry.com lol
August 24th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
@ Bill Boswell: Kent Govind is a fraud peddling pseudoscience. I’m sorry for you – and anyone else – who’s invested emotionally and/or spiritually in this man but I would ask you whether in any other context – business or your family – you would trust a man with fake qualifications?
September 8th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
@ Bill Boswell: Just found out that since January 2007, Kent Hovind has been serving a 10 year prison sentence after being convicted of 58 federal counts, including twelve tax offenses, one count of obstructing federal agents and forty-five counts of structuring cash transactions.
He currently resides at the United States Penitentiary, Atlanta.
Would you buy a used car from this man?
