Andrew Gilligan: Our dangerous dalliance with radical Islam

I thought this to be an excellent piece on the UK, Islamism and politics:

Telegraph:

Over the past 10 days, like a submarine just below the surface, the outline has become visible of a massive Whitehall row, the outcome of which could be almost as important to our country as fixing the deficit.

The argument is about the influence that Islamism should have in the British state. Islamism should never, by the way, be confused with Islam. Islam is a religion, practised by millions of British citizens who have never sought to overthrow anything in their lives. Islamism is a revolutionary political doctrine, supported by a small minority of Muslims, whose aim is to overthrow secular democratic government and replace it with Islamic government.

    @Andrew Gilligan,

    “Islamism should never, by the way, be confused with Islam”

    What a dangerous, dumb and foolish statement so by the logic of Gilligan, Naziism should never be confused with Nazi.

    The Gilligan logic gets even more foolish with this statement, “Islamism is the Muslim equivalent of the BNP”

    Hi Goy, glad you’re around. I read this piece earlier and thought you might appreciate it as well.

    Is this the “counter-enlightenment”?

  3. Goy Says:

    @webmaster,

    Thanks webmaster had a health distraction.

    The post at The Spittoon is sincere and despondent, do not know if I have read it right but reads like a decent man that is finding it difficult to come to terms with the “adversary” that is battering down his door.

    There is nothing to contemplate here it is about power nothing more nothing less, a good old fight between good and evil end of story.

  4. Goy Says:

    No the article is confused on that point the roots of the problems facing the West today may have there roots in the enlightenment.

  5. Grainne Says:

    Andrew Gilligan perpetuates the myth that ‘Islamism” is somehow different from Islam. The qur’an, the hadith and, indeed, all the schools of jurisprudence preach violent jihad, the necessity of world domination by whatever means, including the deceiving of unbelievers, and harsh [punishment for apostasy.
    Whether individual Muslims know this, or are uncomfortable with admitting to it or not, this is what Islam teaches and to persist in a refusal to face it weakens any response that ought to be made. We should understand Islam and understand ourselves. The Scripture is clear that Truth is non-negotiable, even though we proclaim it in love for all, including Muslims whom we long to see saved.

    “What a dangerous, dumb and foolish statement so by the logic of Gilligan, Naziism should never be confused with Nazi.”

    Your analogy is dumb and foolish.

    A more fitting one would be:

    Nazism should never be confused with Christianity.

    But as we know, there were a number of instances during World War II when it was.

  7. james Says:

    This is my take on your logic, as a BNP member.
    The bnp is nazi, sorry we arnt what we are is like churchill, in regard to islam,=NAZISM.
    WE SEE WHAT IS COMING OVER THE HORIZION, LIKE W C DID.
    Does this make us nazis no , does make use churchill in thinking yes, the present apeasement policys of the lib, lab, con,towards islam will end in the same way, 2020-2090 , atomic war between islam, and west, what to0k place between 1939 and 1945 will repeat itself.

  8. Sophie Says:

    @ James: The Churchill family has repeatedly asked the BNP to stop using Winston Churchill’s image or claiming that he would have approved BNP ideas. Winston Churchill’s grandson said “He would have been appalled by their views and the way they claim to represent the wartime generation.” Despite this the BNP continues to abuse the descendants of a national hero and attempt to desecrate his memory.

    This sort of dishonesty is precisely what observers have come to expect from the BNP. Scum. And still, I’m pleased to note, semi-literate scum. No more mentions of Churchill, please.

    Bet you’re relieved Peter King, BNP regional organiser in Hartlepool, only got a suspended sentence last week for racially abusing a woman. Bloke abuses lone woman. So British. So manly.

    And BNP representatives are always so statesmanlike in their conduct… How many deposits was it that you lost at the last election, btw?

  9. Cabal Says:

    So true. It’s like how the religious right in the US is just politicised Christianity that has little to do with the real thing.

  10. Grainne Says:

    Dear Cabal,

    What about the religious left – very political in the USA (and far more outspoken) and the UK.

  11. Cabal Says:

    @Grainne:

    “What about the religious left – very political in the USA (and far more outspoken) and the UK.”

    What about it? My faith informs my personal views, but I’m not going to pull the “God is a Republican” malarkey that elements of the right has done.

  12. Grainne Says:

    Cabal,

    I agree. Nor will I say “God is a Socialist”.

  13. Cabal Says:

    @Grainne:

    Indeed, I should have put ” ‘ God is not a Republican/Democrat(socialist)” for parity’s sake. It’s a mistake to think that God takes human sides, and there are many on both sides who acknowledge the good points of both sides.
