I read the whole letter, and I have to say, though I have no particular love for the Catholic Church, that I was impressed. There are some who will say that it's whitewash, and that there is no evidence of heads rolling. But let's be realistic. This is an open letter. I cannot imagine an open letter as revealing as this being published by any of the large companies or government bodies for which I have worked.

I think it is as candid as it could possibly have been. It clearly indicates the Pope's fury at the whole sorry fiasco, and I'm confident it would be instructive to be a fly on the wall at some of his individual meetings with those involved!

Let us pray that the message finally gets through that covering up for child abuse is NEVER an acceptable price to pay - no matter what the short term damage to the organisation.
