More than 2,000 atheists from around the world are gathering in Melbourne, Australia, to celebrate their lack of religious belief.

I only want to highlight the BBC headline for this one:-

BBC – Atheists meet in Melbourne to celebrate lack of faith

Is this not hilariously paradoxical?

No, it’s not at all paradoxical.
Atheists as a group suffer direct discrimination in many countries. Sometimes this is historically based but here in the UK recently enacted laws discriminate against atheists. Religious groups are advantaged in many ways.
This is truly paradoxical, as atheists probably outnumber the members of any single religious group. Perhaps the Oz atheists have learned from religions that they have to band together so as not to be ignored by those in power.
For many of us, shaking off the detritus of a faith system implanted in childhood has been a truly liberating experience. Surely one could see this as a reason to celebrate ?

Perhaps you’ve forgotten that there are 2.1 billion catholics. :)
