Atheism – The belief that there was nothing and then nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything.
Cross post from Polycarp:-
I found this on Dave Black’s site:
But beyond that, Dave makes a very good and timely point:
If you have stumbled onto this blog and are not a Christian, get yourself a hot drink, pull up a comfy chair and then tuck into the following article written by one of the best in the business:- All Of Grace by Charles SpurgeonTry going out of your way to befriend them. If you don’t know much about their lives, ask them. After all, that’s what friends do. The cumulative weight of all of these encounters builds momentum toward the cross. You will feel awkward at times and wonder if you’re compromising the truth of the Gospel. You may be attacked by others for befriending an “enemy” of Christianity. I say, “Take the risk anyway!” Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors. At the very least that means being warm and friendly to them!
Many people reject the Gospel because they’ve been chewed on once too often. Let’s not be guilty of that when we can be guilty of scandalous love!

I think this is terrible advice. It’s the sort of tactic that could’ve been designed to give Christianity a bad name! Surely evangelism must be authentic if it is to have any lasting value? If you want people to share your faith, then share it openly.
Don’t pretend to be their friend unless you really like them, regardless of their faith. If the friendship you offer is not sincere you’re basically telling them a whole series of lies. As soon as your “target” realises your true agenda they will turn from you – and the Church. Possibly forever.
Many demonstrate their faith through service – although I’m not one of their number I very much admire the Salvation Army for this. Seems to me you attract people by your peace of mind, your service, your way of life – not by phony friendship.
