There is a hypothesis, which if correct, may become THE classical example of science in danger of over-looking something simply because it does not come from a scientifically credible source. Instead of progression of design, presumed to be nature in Darwin;s theory, we have progression of design by advanced scientists. This is relatively speaking, much quicker than the theory of evolution would allow.Somewhat akin to putting evolution theory in a 'microwave. This is against a backdrop of there having been many humanities on this ancient planet before. These have disappeared for the reasons we can well understand today. On first inspection you may consider this to be breath-taking science fiction. However, in the context of this hypothesis, the dangers of over-population and nuclear war are not. In the words of Sir Fred Hoyle"I don't see the logic of rejecting data just because they seem incredible."
