A US judge has ordered South Carolina not to issue a vehicle number plate with a Christian image and slogan.

I have just read on the BBC website, that a US judge has banned car number plates that depict Christianity, like this one:-

It amazes me that folks would want to emblazon their cars with religious imagery, I know one thing for sure, their driving had best be better than mine.

It reminds me of one of those stories you hear and never know if it’s true or not. It goes like this.

Some bloke borrowed his wife’s car and whilst waiting at a junction, the driver behind kept honking their horn. Eventually, highly irritated, the bloke let the driver behind know what he thought of him. Later he discovered that his wife had a bumper sticker on the car that read; ‘Honk if you love Jesus’.

Oh my, you need to travel the American South a bit more. You would be amazed at the sorts of bumper stickers ‘church folk’ put on their cars, like ‘One Cross, Three Nails, Forgiven’. (And that’s one of the milder ones.)

Still, the Federal judge has no business telling a state what it can and cannot make available on a license plate, which design is voluntarily chosen and purchased at a premium by car owners. It’s none of his business, not his jurisdiction, and he will likely be reversed.
