Christian Concern for our Nation Appeal
Christian Concern for our Nation Appeal
I’m writing with an appeal for your help this autumn as we look to sustain the vital work of two talented and committed members of the team, Alex and Kathryn.
I want to make sure these two wonderful Christian lawyers, who provide so vital a service, can be kept with us to continue their able contributions which you see each week in Christian Weekly News, on the websites, in the national media and in our campaigns for godliness in the laws of this land. I’d also like to pay them a little more than we are currently able to. Both are highly trained and skilled professionals who work very hard for salaries right at the limit of what is needed to live in London. To start, I’ll tell you about Kathryn.
Kathryn Wakeling is 31. She studied for her A-levels in Bath before taking an LLB in English and French Law, a full French law degree and a masters in European Community Law before coming to London for her bar vocational course. Having been inspired by the cause, Kathryn seized an opportunity to come on board with CCFON in 2008.
Kathryn does a fabulous job in our central London office, alongside Alex, as one of our Legal & Public Policy Analysts. Since her arrival she has worked on a number of different fronts.
To give you just a few examples – Kathryn has written or contributed to a range of key publications and consultations helping us to influence the debate for Christ and to provide materials that Christians can use to focus prayer and action. She is rapidly becoming expert on a number of areas including Islam, European law and Christian freedoms.
As well as being an excellent scholar and writer, Kathryn is becoming an increasingly impressive spokeswoman at talks in churches and in the media. If you’d like to see Kathryn in action, on the BBC’s ‘Big Questions’, you can do so any time by visiting our media centre.
Alex, 37, is the other half of the duo – and works tirelessly for the cause.
Also highly qualified (with a masters in Law as well as his bar school qualification), Alex came to faith in Christ after a first career as a top level sportsman (competing for Greece in the 1996 Olympics), and shortly afterwards came to the UK to study to become a Barrister. I first met Alex in 2005 and was struck by his strong faith and commitment to traditional family values and godliness.
Since coming on board as a member of the team in 2008, Alex has been a mainstay of the organisation – working long hours to research, analyse and produce a large proportion of the material that you see on our websites and in Christian Weekly News. Both tasks involve tireless review of a huge range of media, careful selection of the most relevant pieces and drafting articles that set out the importance of these developments for Christians.
Alex has also won the respect of non-Christian media for his articulate defence of Christian values and is often contacted by the likes of the BBC with invitations to appear on debates.
Together, Kathryn and Alex form a powerful combination. Please will you help CCFON in a vital way by making a donation towards keeping them with us for at least the next year? I really believe their contribution to upholding our faith and values in this land to be vital.
I’m hoping to establish a fund to cover the costs of their work throughout the next twelve months. It would be a tremendous boost to me personally, to the ministry and I’m sure to Alex and Kathryn to know they will be able to keep their hands to the plough for the months ahead.
Please do help if you can by clicking on the ‘donate’ button below to make a secure contribution. I’m hoping and praying that by the end of November I’ll be assured that Alex and Kathryn’s roles will be secured for the next year. You have all responded so generously in support of this ministry over this year of many challenges. Please do help again now if you can. We are all so grateful for your sustaining love for the cause and the team.
With my very warmest regards to you all, as always
