The General Convention is over, but its impact is far from over. The actions The Episcopal Church took in Anaheim, California continue to reverberate around the world and across the Anglican Communion.
VirtueOnline was one of a very small handful of conservative media voices invited to participate as an accredited journalist at GC2009. For the record, my staff and I were treated very well.
A number of journalists from the liberal media told me that they respect the work I do, even if they do not agree with me. They feel that it is important to recognize other voices. They read VOL and they know that my sources and reporting are reliable and trustworthy.
During the Convention the website was accessed and quoted by news media that included the New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Times, The London Times, The Telegraph as well as radio and TV. Readership at the website was up 35%.
Following the Convention, I heard from bishops and pastors around the country about how valuable VOL’s thorough reporting had been. They used VOL’s archived articles at the web site to write reports on the Convention for their own congregations.
VOL’s voice will continue to inform and influence the global changes going on in the Anglican Communion. We do not want Global Anglican leaders to think that the conservative voice is losing steam in North America.
VOL will continue to stand strong for the Gospel. We will not compromise or draw back from the battle for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. It is imperative that we stand firm against those forces that are destroying the church.
What we see emerging is the beginnings of a new global Anglicanism. The advent of GAFCON, ACNA and the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (FCA) is indicative of a shadow Anglicanism coming to birth alongside an old dying Western-driven Anglicanism driven by moral relativism and theological pluriformity.
We have recently inaugurated a Global Anglican Theological Institute to assist Anglicans in the Global South to be better equipped to serve the Lord and their people. Heading this up is the Rev. Dr. Robert Sanders an evangelical theologian, former TEC priest now with the ACNA. We believe the impact of this will only grow over time. Stories are available in 42 languages.
