A Testimony of God’s Faithfulness to a Bipolar Christian

As I watch all Christian news that’s posted online, I see everyday the erosion of Christianity within this country, so much so, that I don’t post it because it is so depressing, but here is a typical example from today that has annoyed me:-
Source: Christian Today
A medal created by Queen Elizabeth II has been replaced by a new award after having all references to Christianity removed from it, on the grounds that it is not fitting for Hindus and Muslims.
The Trinity Cross of the Order of Trinity, which is given to outstanding individuals from Trinidad and Tobago, was declared unlawful and subsequently will give way to the new Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, reports the Daily Mail.
People who have received the award include Trinidad and Tobago residents and cricketers Brian Lara and Garfield Sobers, as well as diplomats and politicians.
The original medal was in the shape of a cross. The new circular medal has been stripped of all religious symbols and features water, a sun and a map of Trinidad and Tobago.
The medal was first established by the Queen in 1969 and was the third highest decoration, after the Victoria and George Crosses. However, even at the time of its inception some questioned the use of the words “Trinity” and “Cross” in the medal and some refused to accept the honour.
The medal has now been declared unlawful by the Privy Council, which consists of 12 law lords, who argued that the medal discriminates against non-Christians.
Following the decision, Anand Ramlogan, attorney for the Hindu group Maha Saba, said, “It’s a vindication of the 40 years of disquiet and unease silently suffered by the Muslim and Hindu communities whose legitimate grievance with the Trinity Cross was flippantly dismissed by successive governments.”
Maba Saba and the Islamic Relief Centre have been campaigning against the medal since 2004.
Last year the government of Trinidad and Tobago announced the creation of the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The country received its independence in 1962. The population is mainly Christian but is 24 per cent Hindu and five per cent Muslim.

I have been concentrating on these type of keywords and am constantly optimising the eChurchWebsite to be search engine friendly. There is little point in having a fabulous looking website if you don’t feature powerfully in the popular search engines under the search terms that are relevant to your website.

As the whole issue of mental illness and the resulting human suffering has been posted on this blog, I thought it only fair to post an article on the question that Christians get bombarded with on a monotonously regular basis, namely:
‘How can there be a God with all this suffering in the World?’
I have taken this article from our Brother Robin Bruce who runs one of the finest Christian teaching websites on the net, UK Apologetics. Robin tackles the ‘biggies’ and tackles them well!
IF GOD IS JUST AND LOVING, WHY DOES
HE ALLOW SUFFERING IN THIS WORLD?
It seems a fair question and many people have asked it, but what is the answer?
My Advice? … Be Unafraid to Take a Wholly Biblical Approach!
Sadly many attempts to answer this question appear to ‘fall over themselves’ in an attitude of not wishing to offend and of upholding ‘political correctness’. Now, while none of us should ever wish to offend, we must fearlessly proclaim the message of the Bible if we profess to be followers of the Christ!
While some very sincere people ask this question, quite a lot of sceptics, religion ridiculists and atheists also ask the question, and these people often have no genuine wish to increase their understanding but simply wish to slander and humiliate the message of the Gospel wherever they can. Therefore, we should seek to understand the motivation of the questioner before we even set out to explain biblical teaching; if we don’t, we might go into great depth only to have it rebelliously and hatefully thrown back in our face (Matthew 7:6)! Don’t forget that Jesus Himself often refused to directly answer questions when He perceived that the questioner was not acting out of real humility, but simply wished to cause dissent and strife, and wanted to accuse.
My preferred tactic is to quickly establish where the questioner is coming from. Frequently I will ask the enquirer, ‘Do you believe in God?’ The response to this question will often tell me whether there is any point in going into the theology of this matter. If the response is something like, ‘Sure I do, but I cannot understand why there is so much suffering in the world’ , there is a good chance that this is a sincere question and one which merits a considered response; but if the response is, ‘No I do not believe that God exists’ I will often say, ‘Since you do not believe in the existence of God and presumably believe evolution’s claim that we all just evolved from slime and that life is a meaningless accident, why are you questioning the fact that there is suffering in life?’ In this way, one can immediately put pressure on the atheist to justify his/her suggestion that life should be fair! After all, if a person supports mindless and random evolution, why does that person nevertheless expect fairness and justice? It makes no sense!
The question answerer is immediately confronted with a huge problem here: We cannot properly explain why the world is the way it is and why good people suffer without considering what happened in the Garden of Eden, and yet, people have been taught that the Garden of Eden account, and the Adam and Eve it concerned, is just a fable – something one might relate to children, but certainly nothing based on historical fact! Knowing this difficulty some rather more liberal-minded Christians attempt to ‘go around the houses’ in giving an answer (or even worse, in sometimes saying that the question has no answer!), which will sound appealing to modern ears but which makes no mention of the decisions made in the very first garden.
So we need to understand that just as a person going into a cinema towards the end of a movie will be totally perplexed by the action without receiving an explanation of what happened at the beginning, this also applies to those who wonder at the state of the modern world yet have never given any serious thought to religion, philosophy or indeed, God!
The Holy Bible quite clearly states that the first human couple, Adam and Eve, rejected the possibility of permanently walking with God in close unity, preferring the appeal to human vanity offered by Satan (Genesis 3:4-5). Satan implied that God was untrustworthy and encouraged the first couple to develop a purely human knowledge – apart from God – through experimentation; the very first such experiment was in tasting a fruit which the Lord God had expressly forbidden (Genesis 3:4-6). The Lord had said that the tasting of that fruit would lead to death (Genesis 2:16-17), and He meant it, yet He had had not said when that death would occur; but because Adam and his wife did not die immediately, they (in the new attitude of mistrust and suspicion fostered by Satan) questioned what the Lord had told them. Thus, we see the birth of human God-denying intellectual arrogance which would now only have ‘faith’ in human ‘wisdom’!
With the resultant Fall of Mankind (Genesis 3:23-24), not only the nature of men and women changed, but the physical world itself became unstable and potentially dangerous, with the possibility of earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and various weather disasters, including droughts and floods (Romans 8:19-22). Crops would also now become much harder to grow (Genesis 3:17-19) – animals too lost their essentially peaceful nature and the world of animals and insects would now proceed ‘red in tooth and claw’ with Satan’s predatory spirit! Pain also now became an inseparable part of human existence and men would tend to dominate and bully their wives (Genesis 3:16). It’s as if the Lord said, ‘You want to do things your own way? Fine, but you must accept the whole package and you must also try to control the natural world without my protective hand!’
So we need to understand that the world which we see all around us today – though still occasionally containing much beauty – falls well short of what God intended it to be. Human beings are now born with a ‘fallen nature’ (Psalm 51:5) (the doctrines of Original Sin and Human Depravity), this does not mean that people are as evil as they can possibly be – thankfully, in most cases, far from it – but that they can only comprehend carnal, human, non-divine knowledge (1 Corinthians 2:6-16) – indeed, just that form of knowledge which Adam and Eve accepted for, and on behalf of, their millions of descendants!
But – it might be asked – are not some people genuinely “religious”? Sure they are, but unless God Himself decides to open human eyes their religion will be a mixture of truth and error with no possibility of them entering into a genuine relationship with the Living God! God has ordained that the way back into a right relationship with Him is possible on an individual basis (not to society as a whole at the present time) through the blood of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Yet even then there will continue to be suffering and injustice in this life, because Christians must continue to live in this present evil world for the remainder of this age (Psalm 34:19; John 15:20; Romans 8:17-18; 2 Corinthians 4:16-17). Yet we must face the fact that the present human condition of falleness does indeed mean that there is much evil in the world, for all are now very prone to evil but some people (obviously too many examples to include here) and some societies (Nazi Germany and Pol Pot’s Cambodia, for example) succomb very greatly to it (Jeremiah 17:9; 2 Timothy 3:13).
Nevertheless, God remains merciful, loving and concerned towards His Creation and refuses to totally leave or abandon human beings to their own devices (Isaiah 61:1-3). So He still sets out to show us – even through the imperfect societies which Adam and Eve chose for their children – that His righteous ways are best!
Job was a righteous man but he too suffered: but when Job suffered greatly, his attitude was,
‘Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him…’ (Job 13:15)
When even his sons and daughters were taken from him, Job’s attitude was,
‘…The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised’ (Job 1:21).
So our response should always be to trust God, yes, even in severe trials because somewhere in everything that happens upon this earth God is working out His purpose. Let me illustrate: A two-year old child might scream loudly when he or she needs to be changed, bathed, or put to bed, but that child’s parents have a purpose in doing those things which are for that child’s own good and happiness – even though the child will not understand for the present. The difference between the understanding of a two year old child and that child’s parents is very large, yet as nothing compared to our knowledge and the all-encompassing knowledge of God! God sees the whole of eternity before Him, but we only see only our own tiny little corner of life; as C.S. Lewis once put it, ‘We see so little down here!’ The Bible also makes it clear that human suffering can actually accomplish spiritual good in those who suffer in various ways, yet who keep their eyes on the Master (Romans 8:18; Hebrews 12:4-11). The Master Potter and Master Sculptor is primarily concerned with developing spiritual character in people – not in helping people go through their lives with trouble-free existences!
But some have said: Why didn’t God just force people to do good and to be kind to each other in this world right now? Why didn’t He simply make people not to sin?
Well, first of all because the first couple – on behalf of all of us – rejected God’s interventionism in human affairs (Genesis 3:8-10), but also because God cannot deny Himself and His own integrity of godly character! He wanted to give people a choice to do good or evil, He gave people free will, but God wants people to obey Him in a situation in which they could have chosen to do evil – therein lies the intrinsic righteousness which our Creator wants to see in people. A righteusness in which they are exposed to, and are fully aware of the allure of sin but nevertheless willingly choose the paths of righteousness! God wants people to learn the consequences of their own actions – whether good or evil.
God does not want to save unthinking automatons! Meaningful relationships are impossible with unthinking automatons – God wants to save people who have seen what sin and evil can do and become utterly set against it – for eternity! And yet the righteousness which saves such people is truthfully not their own but Christ’s (2 Corinthians 13:4-5).
God caused us to live in a real world where we can choose our actions and have some measure of control over our lives. We become exposed to cause and effect; we learn that sin can affect not only ourselves but many others – yes, even little children. We are made in God’s image and – since it is the path which our first parents chose for their descendants – He allows us to live in our own little ‘three score years and ten’ ‘godly kingdoms’ upon this earth. He could have been ‘interventionist’ – immediately intervening, for example, if a teen took drugs in order to protect the teen and his or her family, but God would then have played the role of a bad parent who actually encouraged people to do wrong knowing that God was always around to intervene! God could have chosen to intervene for every slipshod builder whose houses collapse, killing and maiming the house dwellers, but again, that would require God to support unworthy scoundrels! No; God uses the principles of cause and effect to teach us all lessons which have a moral foundation. Sometimes the innocent suffer, and yet theologically speaking, none of us are innocent in any case, since we are all partakers of the sinful nature inherited from our parents(Romans 5:12).
But the really good news is that the Bible clearly teaches the Resurrection of the Dead (1 Corinthians 15:20-23, 42-49; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) followed by the Great Judgment (Romans 14:10-12; Revelation 20:11-13) in which all will receive final justice in the eternal court of heaven! The wicked may seem to go free in this life but eventually every soul will become answerable to God – yes, this includes final justice for those righteous souls – probably in their millions – who have unjustly suffered at the hands of tyrants upon this earth! They died in despair but will be welcomed into God’s eternal Kingdom. Also millions of those who died in childhood (before the age of accountability), including countless thousands whose lives were taken while still in the womb! Yet those who reject God will have their choice of eternal exclusion from His presence. There is finally complete and total justice to come for this entire earth despite the erroneous and rebellious decision made in the Garden, because ultimately we all remain God’s creation and He will take responsibility for that Creation.
CONCLUSION
To understand the evil in this world we have to understand our origins: where we came from, who we are and the decisions taken in a beautiful garden many thousands of years ago. We have to understand that human beings have free will to do good or evil – yet they will bear the consequences of their behaviour.
It is sheer folly to blame God for the suffering present in a world which has quite plainly rejected Him (Isaiah 59:1-8)! Indeed, the blueprint for a perfect society is contained in the Holy Bible (Matthew 5-7) but few have accepted it.
So God – in His utter mercy – has not left us without explanation or totally without remedy! One of this world’s claimed ‘holy books’ , The Holy Bible is indeed actually inspired by God and contains a full explanation of the human predicament! The remedy is in Jesus Christ our Lord; Yes, all must continue to suffer in this present evil age for the truth is that sinfulness necessarily brings on suffering – not only to the sinner but often to those surrounding the sinner – but this is a path which Mankind has chosen for itself; yet a New Heavens and a New Earth is coming in which tears and pain will be a thing of the past (Revelation 21:1-8). Christ – and Christ alone (Acts 4:10-12) – is the key to unlock the door into that glorious future.

The ‘Chilling Effect’ on Free Speech of the Coroners and Justice Bill and How You can Help to Stop It
The offence of ‘inciting hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation’ is part of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 (‘CJI Act’). Lord Waddington successfully inserted a free speech clause into that Act, which clause 61 (formerly clause 58) of the Coroners and Justice Bill now seeks to remove. Clause 61 has been passed by the Commons. It reads as follows:
61 Hatred against persons on grounds of sexual orientation
In Part 3A of the Public Order Act 1986 (c. 64) (hatred against persons on grounds of sexual orientation etc), omit section 29JA (protection for discussion or criticism of sexual conduct etc).
Section 29JA (which clause 61 seeks to omit) reads as follows:
29JA Protection of freedom of expression (sexual orientation)
In this Part, for the avoidance of doubt, the discussion or criticism of sexual conduct or practices or the urging of persons to refrain from or modify such conduct or practices shall not be taken of itself to be threatening or intended to stir up hatred.
The provisions of the Bill are likely to be considered in the House of Lords shortly after its Second Reading on 18th May.
‘Stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation’ carries a sentence of up to seven years’ imprisonment. Without highlighting the legal distinction between ‘discussion’ on one hand and the ‘stirring up’ of ‘hatred’ on the other, ordinary people will be frightened into silence, unsure whether they can challenge the new morality that seeks to normalise and promote homosexual practice.
Nobody supports the stirring up of hatred, but equally no reasonable person should object to peaceful criticism and discussion of sexual behaviour. Repealing this clause would remove the clear legal protection for such criticism and discussion from the face of the statute. Issuing Guidelines to police and prosecutors cannot hope to undo the damage this will cause. If clause 61 is passed, the consequences would include a climate of fear surrounding the mere discussion of sexual ethics and potentially the silencing of the Christian view.
Let us stand as Christians for our freedom to make a peaceful and reasonable case for biblical sexual ethics.
Attempts to amend this same Bill to allow assisted suicide, including a high-profile bid by former Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt, have so far failed. However, we can expect further attempts by the pro-euthanasia lobby to decriminalise assistance with suicide abroad during its Committee Stage, which follows Second Reading. This would render the existing law inconsistent. People would ask why it is acceptable to assist with a suicide abroad, but not at home. The consequences are plain for all to see.
A concerted campaign is growing in the media to normalise the idea of legalising assistance with suicide: Dr Philip Nitschke is in the UK once again promoting different methods for committing suicide and this month Chris Woodhead, former chief of OFSTED, has made known his desire to commit suicide in the Daily Mail. Pray that the Lord would hold the line and that the sanctity of life would be preserved in our law. Please use the list of Peers’ votes at the link below to find out which Peers voted for the free speech clause in May 2008. Please write to as many as you can, asking them to attend Parliament to vote for any amendment that would remove clause 61. Swine Flue: Pandemic or Panic?
Is The Encouragement To Panic Really About Something Different?
Nobody doubts that every nation on earth should do everything possible to protect the health of it’s people. I well remember the Asian influenza outbreak of the 1960s and how it took the life of a man I had come to know through the course of my working life. Disease epidemics are a very nasty business because many hundreds or thousands – occasionally even several millions – of people could die. Having said that, the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918-19 was very rare and exceptional. That epidemic led to the death of several million people but it did so in a very different world and one gripped by a World War I which was just drawing to a close. I don’t recall the figures of the Asian flu which affected the UK in the 60s, but it probably affected a few thousand people. But going back to the devastation which Spanish flu caused almost a hundred years ago, one would have to say that the world has changed a lot since then and standards of cleanliness and hygiene have improved beyond measure as has medical care. Most infectious diseases thrive in unsanitary conditions. Rightly or wrongly, many wise and seasoned health experts believe that pandemics such as the horrific bubonic plague of the Middle Ages and even the Spanish influenza of the early 20th century could not occur on such a scale today. There seems reasonable grounds for some optimism, then, that the recent outbreak of swine influenza in Mexico will not lead to a world-wide catastrophe, even though several hundreds, maybe even a few thousand people might tragically succomb. But first indications are that recovery chances are very good indeed. Of 2,000 people admitted to Mexican hospitals within a few days of the scare, 1,000 had been sent home within two more days. No cause, then, for panic.
I am reliably informed that swine flu has broken out before – in the United States of the 1970s. There was even some initial panic, but fewer than ten people succombed, with one lady tragically dying. Taking all of this into account, the recent sudden widespread hysteria, largely fuelled by an amazingly irresponsible media, is pretty hard to fathom. Modern media is now an immediately world-wide thing and the scaremongering has predictably caused some panic right across the world. The BBC News of the 29th of April even showed children being collected from school who were in tears because of their fear of catching this illness. In fact, of course, those children have far more chance of being involved in an accident on British roads! On this same date, the very same source commenced the evening TV News with the incredible statement,
“The world is now very close to declaring a pandemic!”
Of course, the press and media love a good story – always have done – but the recent irresponsibility of the BBC News, once a byword for responsible and balanced reporting, is truly something to behold!
Of course, these scare stories are not new, at least not here in the UK. It was only about eight years ago that Hong Kong flu was hailed as a big threat to our civilisation. People returning from holidays to that part of the world were being shunned and avoided and certain “medical experts” were warning of the real danger of world-wide epidemic. But within about five months the whole thing was forgotten. Then, more recently, Avian bird flu was being seen as the danger to our continued existence as an island nation. “Global pandemic could be just around the corner,” British TV viewers were being informed by the BBC, on just about every news bulletin for several weeks! We were even being warned that the eating of poultry might be just a relic of the past within a year. But, once more, within months the whole thing was forgotten. We don’t seem to learn!!
However, this modern media irresponsibility does raise further questions:
I well remember how the UK media played down the potential seriousness of the Asian flu bug about 45-50 years ago – why the drastic change in approach? Well the media is now much more of an instantly world-wide thing than it once was of course, but that may not explain everything. We are soon led to a consideration of other ‘scare stories’ which have been widely propagated. The most obvious here is, of course, the ‘Global Warming’ hysteriaism. Why is a certain level of panic (wholly unjustified from a scientific point of view) actually being encouraged? The peak year in the warming cycle was 1998 – now eleven years ago! Since then the world has been getting cooler and last winter was exceptionally severe in many northern hemisphere countries (which, of course, the hysteriaists don’t want to talk about). The recent warming phase, then, was just a phase, probably mainly related to sun spot activity, there have been other such warming and cooling phases in the past, nothing unusual or extraordinary – just the way our planet works.
Interestingly, those who believe that moves are well underway to form one world government have always told us that the media will actively encourage various scare stories in order to present a picture that one, centralized world government is the only way to solve worldwide problems! Once again, balanced and sensible people who hate over-sensationalized reporting are tending to give these people their ear. Let us get one thing straight: UK Apologetics has never supported conspiracy theories. Having said that, we recently conceded that the evidence is now very strong that – mostly behind the scenes – attempts are indeed underway to form one world religion and – make no mistake – if that day should ever dawn, Biblical Christianity will certainly be banned! But let there be no mistake: people like Maurice Strong who has continually pushed for one world government and one world religion is convinced that the world will have both within 15 years!
The Christian Hawk, May 1st, 2009.
Men and Women always strive for ‘freedom’ but what is “Freedom”?
People have come up with some interesting definitions of ‘freedom.’
George Hegel said,
“Freedom is to be in possession of oneself.”
Albert Camus made the following very interesting comment,
“People are prepared to abandon freedom for social justice. But all that happens is that you get a new form of social injustice.”
Karl Marx believed that freedom could be attained by destroying the received rule and authority of an elite ruling class over simple workers – just give the simple, humble “workers” the authority and remove it from the elitist wealthy and there you will have a perfect society!
But one of the most interesting quotes about ‘freedom’ comes from Charles Kingsley. Kingsley said,
“There are two freedoms – the false, where a man is free to do what he likes; the true, where a man is free to do what he ought.”
Kingsley clearly grasped that “human freedom,” seen as complete human self-interest, and/or combined with mental enslavement to a flawed philosophy of life, can be utterly disastrous.
Satan Encouraged Eve to Exercise Freedom…
Most people today are not interested in what happened in the Garden of Eden, since they view that garden as purely mythical. Little do “sophisticated” and “enlightened” moderns know that that garden is no myth and that what happened there has shaped people’s attitude to the whole concept of ‘freedom.’
The message which the lying serpent taught the first human couple is that human freedom and human independence – especially independence of any concept of the divine or supernatural – are worthy and meritorious ideals. Adam and Eve (literally!) ‘swallowed’ this belief when they swallowed the forbidden fruit!
The search for human freedom never stops but just as various societies have felt that true freedom was very close and they held out a hand to pluck it, it disappeared! Communism did not bring freedom, but only even greater enslavement; Nazism did not bring freedom although thousands of Germans were taught that it would; Neither did Darwinism bring freedom, indeed, the underlying atheism within this so-called “scientific” creed gave apparent justification to the hideous excesses of the two aforementioned political systems! Meanwhile, the ‘permissive society’ which liberals believed would finally bring true human freedom at last, has only brought moral depravity, wretchedness and youth suicide levels on a scale undreamed of – yes, even undreamed of in the most impoverished and harsh third world dictatorships.
The problem is that people have only sought ‘freedom’ according to their own ideals or according to their own wishes or needs. But certainly any concept that ‘freedom’ can only be achieved by the throwing off of all moral restraints has – in our own highly liberal and permissive age – been blown apart as a valid theory. Like all quests for “human freedom,” all that has happened is that another group within society has come under enslavement.
But THERE IS a Way to Freedom…
The way to true freedom is, firstly, to recognise the great lie that “human freedom” may be found within the path of human autonomy and self-interest.
When the first human couple walked and talked with the Lord God they already had true human freedom. But the great lie which came from the Arch Deceiver is that freedom equals no responsibility. On the contrary, freedom can only be attained where people recognise human responsibility. In this, Charles Kingsley’s concept of freedom was certainly close to the mark. Indeed, if men and women choose to do whatever they like, that is only the path to anarchy and to eventual Nihilism! But if freedom is sought along the path of bringing the greatest joy and blessings to our fellow men and women, then we at least start out on the right road. However, Karl Marx also believed that his version of freedom would bring the greatest blessings to ordinary men and women so we must make sure that the philosophy is right in the first place. But Marx’s philosophy was distorted by hatred, envy and by the conviction that he alone was right. So what is the answer?
The answer is to reject the original satanic lie that men and women should seek their own human knowledge apart from any concept of the supernatural or divine. The “enlightenment” finally rubber-stamped this naive philosophy which it decided to call “scientific” – what the cunning serpent knew, of course, is that where God is rejected, demonic forces move in so Mankind can never operate outside of supernatural influence.
But Jesus of Nazareth came to offer us a road back to true freedom – that true path which – alone – can bring the greatest joy and happiness to men and women! Jesus said,
‘…If you hold to my teaching, you really are my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you FREE’ (John 8:31-32, NIV – my emphasis).
But the Jews revealed that they only conceived of freedom in human political/philosophical terms, so Jesus quickly clarified what true freedom really is:
‘Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”‘ (John 8:34-36).
But the Jews continued to misunderstand Jesus throughout the remainder of John 8 – check out the entire chapter!
So the message is clear that IT IS SIN WHICH IS THE ENSLAVER. Yes, sin enslaves. It is the sinful tendency in people which makes them come up with their own independent ideas of “freedom” then want to impose those ideas on others. But all of those human conceptions of freedom are inherently flawed. The answer of Scripture is that human sin must be dealt with first – only then do we achieve clear spiritual sight! Jesus came to earth to make this clear spiritual sight available to those who accept the Gospel and who commit their lives to Him. Only with that clear and vivid spiritual sight can we correctly understand what freedom is – and just as importantly, what it is not!
So – just as John 8 tells us – if the ‘Son’ (Jesus, the Son of God) sets us free from sin, then that alone is true freedom. The eventual alternative is serious indeed: we finally perish and the prospect of Eternal Death looms large for those who continue to stubbornly deny God and refuse to acknowledge the clear reality of human sin!
‘”…But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”‘ (Luke 13:5).
Freedom, then, does not and cannot abide with human sinfulness. Satan’s great lie is that “freedom” lies in the path of human autonomy devoid of any authority – but therein lies the path to Eternal Death! Yes, freedom – true freedom! – is certainly attainable but it may only be found in the path of sinlessness. Mankind lost the required ‘road map’ but Jesus Christ opens a door to get us back there. Thereafter Christians start to experience and understand this freedom even in this life whilst understanding that true freedom is the gift of Eternal Life, finally achieved (not by our own efforts, but through divine grace) – beyond the grave…
Is it not worth it?
